Following an announcement from Symantec we want to make sure that all our customers who use pcAnywhere, and more importantly Altiris CMS or SMS customers who may have pcAnywhere deployed as part of their remote control solution, are aware of the possible security threats to their networks. At the moment information is still being updated from Symantec and we recommend that Consilium support customers get in contact with us for more information, or follow the updates on the main Symantec site or on their connect site.
The threats appear to come from a theft of source code from Symantec in 2006 and therefore affects products which have been around since then including pcAnywhere. Hopefully updates will be released soon which will update the products to protect your networks – we will keep you up to date as the situation progresses.
